Cervical spondylosis is also called cervical arthritis.
It is a condition involving changes to the bones,
discs, and joints of the neck. With age, the discs of
the cervical spine gradually break down, lose fluid,
and become stiffer. Cervical spondylosis usually
occurs in middle-aged and elderly people.
Spurs or abnormal growths of bone may form around
the spinal canal.
These abnormal growths can cause
narrowing of the interior spinal canal, this causes
Cervical Stenosis.
If the spinal canal becomes too narrowed it can
place an undue amount of pressure on the spinal
cord. This can cause a disease of the spinal cord
called
Myelopathy
. The
Laminoplasty
is one way of
performing a decompression to halt the effects and
progression of spinal cord compression.
